Music

The department of music was established in 1971 and since then its dedicated faculty has been working for academic and cultural growth of college. It offers B.A. Programme course in music and teaches classical music (Vocal) and classical instrumental (Sitar) covering different areas of Hindustani Music. The department also registers students for B.A. Honours Course and M.A. Music course for which classes are held in the Faculty of Music, University of Delhi. The course familiarises the students with the fundamentals of various ragas, history of music and life sketches of great musicians and musicologists. It helps them to develop their potential in music and opens up channels for entry into post graduation, M.Phil., Ph.D. in music and teaching career later on. The department has an active music association ‘SAAZ’ which organises events like lecture-demonstrations, music competitions, quiz, workshops, skill development programs etc. for the all round development and benefit of the students.

The vision of the department is to grow and expend in teaching techniques, research field and creating performing students as well as mentoring them into becoming fine teachers. The department gives students an insight into various styles of music viz. classical, semi classical, light and folk music as well. The department is well-equipped with musical instruments like Sitar, Tanpura, Tabla and Harmonium.
