Centre for Foreign Languages
The college offers part time Certificate/ Diploma/Advance Diploma Courses in Foreign Languages to women and men who wish to develop their skills and fluency in both speaking and writing in a language of their choice. The College offers add-on courses in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages.
Advance Diploma Courses are offered only to those who have qualified the Diploma Course in the relevant language and Diploma Courses are open to those who have qualified the Certificate Course in the concerned language. Students who are seeking admissions in Advance Diploma in German/Spanish/French/Italian language and have passed the Certificate/Diploma Course from Institutions other than Delhi University/Gap year cases are required to clear the entrance test conducted by the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, Delhi University.
All these Certificate, Diploma & Advance Diploma Courses are conducted in collaboration with the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, Department of South Asian Studies, University of Delhi.

Psychology Resource Centre
The Psychology Resource Centre at Daulat Ram College comprises four specialized centres: the Mental Health Centre, Capacity Building Centre, Value Engagement Centre, and the Centre for Well-Being and Flourishing. These centres aim to foster emotional well-being, intellectual growth, inclusivity, and mindfulness through a variety of innovative programs and initiatives, enriching the academic and personal lives of students, faculty, and staff.
The Mental Health Centre of The Psychology Department organized a talk on “Naturopathic Selfcare” held on 12th August 2024 by Dr. Mami Yanai, specialising in Naturopathic medicine. This session, attended by 175 participants, emphasized the integration of traditional Japanese healing practices into self-care routines. The event commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by an introduction of the speaker by Dr. Meetu Khosla. Dr. Yanai’s session was deeply reflective, focusing on healing as an experiential process rather than a theoretical concept. She introduced concepts like Amae psychology, mindfulness, and the art of savoring life’s “delicious moments,” concluding with an immersive Japanese tea ceremony that symbolized peace and simplicity.
The Capacity Building Centre organised a workshop on “Campus Connect” on 24th September, 2024. The workshop, under the guidance of Dr. Suparna Jain Thakur, provided a roadmap for navigating academic expectations, extracurricular opportunities, and personal well-being. Seniors and mentors shared their experiences, offering guidance on time management, building a social network, and making the most of college resources. Interactive discussions allowed freshers to ask questions about academics, internships, and student life, creating a supportive environment. By the end of the workshop, students left with a sense of direction, feeling more confident about their journey in college.
The Psychology department organized a visit to “MUSKAAN-PAEPID” NGO on 9th October, 2024 under the supervision of Dr. Rajni Sahni and Dr. Sandhya Rani Hawbam, where students engaged directly alongside adults with intellectual disabilities and witnessed the various vocational training programs they are equipped with. The tour concluded with a brief Question and Answer session with the faculty members, about the NGO’s broader impact. This visit highlighted the importance of inclusive support systems, offering students a profound understanding of empowerment through compassionate care.
Mental Health Day Celebrations (Manotsav) were organised by the Mental Health Centre of the Psychology Department on 15th October 2024 benefitting more than 500 students of Daulat Ram College with Prof. Rajni Sahni and Prof. Meetu Khosla serving as the convenors of the event. Various events were organized to spread awareness on mental health issues and how to improve it. In the inaugural session renowned experts, including Prof. Nand Kumar from AIIMS, Prof. Vibha Sharma from IHBAS, and Dr. Reema Gupta, a distinguished private practitioner, served as panellists for the discussion on “Mental Health at the Workplace.” Dr. Rajni Sahni moderated the discussion, which focused on raising awareness about mental health issues in professional settings, reducing stigma, and promoting supportive work environments. This event provided students with practical strategies to address workplace stress and foster mental well- being. The department also hosted “Art Therapy Workshop”, led by Prof. Meetu Khosla, allowing participants to explore their emotions through creative expression, fostering self-reflection and emotional relief. Following this, the “Dance Therapy Workshop” was conducted by Ms. Nainika Mukherjee, a certified Dance Movement Therapy Practitioner from TISS. This session focused on enhancing self-awareness and emotional expression through movement, helping participants connect with their emotions in a supportive environment. As part of the event, Mental Health Showcases and Booths were organized in collaboration with Chaaya Organization and Youth for Mental Health. These featured interactive stalls and engaging activities designed to raise awareness about mental health, provide valuable resources, and encourage open discussions on well-being. Additionally, an Open Stage session was held, offering students a vibrant and inclusive platform to showcase their talents and express themselves freely.
The Capacity Building Centre (Psychology Resource Centre) held a workshop on “Samwaad: Conversations Beyond the Binary” on 6th November, 2024. Attended by 120 participants, “Samwaad” was a thought-provoking session led by Chitvan, the founder of the Queer Education Initiative Foundation. This event explored gender diversity, the spectrum of identities, and the importance of inclusivity and allyship within the campus community. The event concluded with a Question-and-Answer session, tackling the common misconceptions centred around the non- binary community.
Value Engagement Centre and Mental Health Centre organised the IV Awareness, De- stigmatization and Seeking Help (ADS IV) mental health awareness program for 300 students was organised in three sessions on 12th,19th and 26th February. The students form Psychology Honors III year were trained by Prof. Meetu Khosla to take these awareness sessions online and share meaningful information about signs and symptoms of mental illness, being aware about various disorders, developing empathy and compassion towards those displaying deviant behaviors and finally helping them realize to take help form counsellors for mental health problems. A directory of mental health professionals was also mailed to all the participants for any reference. The students feedback was collected and it reflected a better understanding about mental health issues, value of good health and options for seeking treatment.
The Centre for Well-Being and Flourishing organized the event ‘Mindphool: The Bloom of Mindfulness’ on 25th February under the guidance of Prof. Pooja V. Anand. The event featured a sharing circle where students shared their experiences and learnings from the week-long intervention on mindfulness. There was an interactive board in which the college students could rate their level of mindfulness, and students also wrote what they were mindful about. There was a display board which showcased pictures clicked by the students during the intervention week about anything that they liked or found novel or interesting. A table display consisted of various copies of the brochure created by the students about various ways to be mindful, flower badges saying I’m mindful worn by the students, bookmarks on mindfulness, and a gratitude jar to write and put in what one is grateful for. The event was an overwhelming success and drew participation of students and teachers of various departments of the college as well as the non- teaching staff.

Centre For Legal Literacy, Awareness and Aid was established in Daulat Ram College on October 17, 2022. The centre aims to impart fundamental knowledge and awareness about the legal framework. With a vision of providing equal justice for all through an inclusive legal system, the Centre has become a beacon of legal education within the academic community.
The Legal Services Clinic was inaugurated on February 20, 2024 in Sadbhavna Bhawan. The inauguration was graced by the Honorable Shri Mukesh Kumar Gupta, District Judge and Member Secretary of the Delhi State Legal Services Authority, as the Chief Guest. The occasion also saw the distinguished presence of Shri Mukul Gupta, Chairman (Governing Body), and eminent members from Delhi Judicial Services, including:

The inauguration was further enriched by the presence of the Principal of Daulat Ram College, Prof. Savita Roy. This landmark initiative marks a significant step in promoting legal literacy and access to justice within and beyond the academic sphere.
On the same occasion, Information Board of Delhi State Legal Services Authority was also unveiled in the front foyer of the college. It was momentous occasion for our college and a matter of pride as we have collaborated with Delhi State Legal Services Authority i.e. at the state level along with Central District Legal Services authority to walk an extra mile in achieving the Delhi State Legal Services Authority motto of Sewa Samadhan Samarpan.
The above endeavour is carried out in pursuance of Article 39A of the Constitution of India, Legal Services Authorities were established by Parliament by way of enactment of Legal Services Authority Act, 1987 and established a nationwide uniform network for providing free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society, on the basis of equal opportunity. At Legal Services Clinic, not only legal aid will be provided but information about Government schemes is also provided to Students, Staff and their families.
The centre has been working for spreading legal awareness by sharing information and posts on its social media handles for the betterment of the community and society at large. It also plans to create awareness about various social issues being faced by the society, by organising programmes, awareness drives, workshops and seminars in its future endeavours.

The Centre For Philosophical Counselling, Values and Well-Being was inaugurated in Daulat Ram College on February 27, 2023. This initiative is noteworthy, marking the first of its kind within a collegiate institution affiliated with the University of Delhi and the second of its nature in India. The inauguration event, held on the digital platform Zoom due to contemporary constraints, brought together an impressive assembly of esteemed dignitaries. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Rajaneesh Kumar Shukla, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya in Wardha. Additionally, the presence of the Guest of Honour, Prof. Sachchidanand Mishra, the Member Secretary of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) in New Delhi, lent further gravitas to the event. The Keynote Address was delivered by the distinguished Prof. Balaganapathi Devarakonda, who holds the ICCR Chair for Indology at The University of the West Indies in Mania. The event was presided over by Prof. Savita Roy, the esteemed Principal of Daulat Ram College.
Following its launch, the Centre for Philosophical Counselling, Values and Well-being initiated a pioneering two-day workshop that took place on July 22 and 23, 2024, aptly focused on “Philosophical Counselling.” Coordinated by the knowledgeable Prof. (Dr.) Sonia Mehta, this workshop showcased a panel of experts from the field of philosophy, including Prof. Balaganapathi Devarakonda, Dr. Navneet Chopra, and Prof. Hari Shankar Prasad. The event harnessed the potential of philosophy to address pressing issues surrounding mental health and existential challenges, providing participants with valuable insights and tools to navigate these complexities.
On the first day of the workshop, the esteemed Prof. Balaganapathi Devarakonda delivered a compelling lecture that centered on the theme of depression. He articulated his thoughts with eloquence, stating, “You call it Depression. We call it a trick that the mind plays with you,” emphasizing the necessity of achieving a balance between rational thought and emotional awareness to confront such challenges. Prof. Balaganapathi’s address dismantled preexisting societal myths surrounding philosophy’s role, advocating for its continual relevance in contemporary times.
The following day featured Dr. Navneet Chopra, who engaged participants by utilizing a poignant cinematic clip featuring the late actor Irrfan Khan. This served as a profound vehicle to explore the notion of an Existential Crisis, especially as it pertains to both personal and professional realms. His insightful declaration, “It is not the Disaster that affects us. It is our Perception of it,” resonated deeply, as he emphasized the subjective experience of difficulties. Following this, Dr. Chopra facilitated an interactive PowerPoint presentation that allowed participants to engage in self-reflection, offering questions designed to explore their sentiments surrounding life choices and career aspirations.
The workshop saw robust participation, with over 150 attendees logging in from various locations, eager to engage with the content presented. The dynamic Q&A sessions following each talk further exemplified the enthusiasm and active engagement from the participants, leading to rich discussions that transcended the initial presentations. Conclusively, the event wrapped up on July 23, 2024, with a heartfelt vote of thanks, leaving participants equipped with valuable philosophical insights that are instrumental in addressing societal conditioning and understanding complex issues such as depression and existential crises. This groundbreaking initiative highlights the Centre’s commitment to fostering well-being through the lens of philosophy, setting a precedent for similar endeavors in educational institutions across India.

5. Skill Development Centers
Daulat Ram College received a seed grant of Rs.10 Lakhs from Skill Enhancement Courses committee (SEC), University of Delhi to develop Skill Development Centers to impart skill training under various SEC (Skill Enhancement Courses) courses.

1. Skill Development Center in Drosophila and Zebrafish Model Organisms
The Center is successfully running the Skill enhancement course (SEC) course: “Drosophila and Zebrafish Model Organisms in Biological studies” under UGCF 2020 since 2023 in each semester.
More than 1000 students from DRC, SVC, DBC, SRCASW and NIET (Pharmacy College), Noida, AIIMS have been skill trained in Drosophila and Zebrafish model systems.
The Center published a Practical Lab Manual for the SEC course: Drosophila and Zebrafish Model Organism in Biological Studies, authored by Prof. Padmshree Mudgal, Dr. Neeru Dhamija, and Dr. Anita Goel (Department of Biochemistry, Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi) in 2024. This Practical lab Manual would serve as a resource material for the teaching faculty and provide ready hand out material for students.
The students and faculty associated with the Skill Development Center participated in Skill, Startup and Entrepreneurship Expo in DU, Oct. 4-6th Oct 2024. The Center was awarded The Potential for Excellence Award.

The zebrafish lab facility in Daulat Ram College was set up in October 2015, jointly by Biochemistry and Zoology Departments in collaboration with CSIR-IGIB, Mathura Road, Delhi, and Sansriti Foundation Delhi. The facility has been funded by Star Innovation projects DU, Star College project DBT, Govt. of India, and Innovation projects DU. It was developed with the aim of providing an alternative in vivo non–invasive model system for science education, teaching, and research.

b. Drosophila Resource Centre

Lab Training
The Drosophila Resource Centre was established in the Department of Biochemistry in 2012 with funding from the DBT Star College Project. The Centre is dedicated to teaching the fundamental principles of genetics using Drosophila as a model organism.
Since its inception, the Centre has successfully trained more than 450 students from various life science streams such as Botany, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, and Zoology from the University of Delhi and Punjab University. The training imparted at the Centre has significantly benefited students, as reflected in their selection for higher education programs in genetics at prestigious institutions.
The lab manual titled “Rediscovering Genetics”, first published in 2016, encompasses a range of experiments conducted by students at the Centre. It continues to be recognized as a key academic resource and is included in the suggested readings for the syllabi of Delhi University, AIIMS, and Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management.
In the current academic year, the Centre has published a practical lab manual on Drosophila and Zebrafish model organisms in biological studies. This manual serves as an accessible resource, streamlining information and simplifying the recording of data for students enrolled in the SEC course on Drosophila and Zebrafish model organisms in biological studies.
The Drosophila Resource Centre continues to play a pivotal role in advancing genetics education and inspiring the next generation of geneticists. The Centre extends its resources and expertise to various institutions, including colleges under Delhi University, AIIMS, Sanatan Dharm (P.G.) College, Muzaffarnagar, and MDU.
The Centre provides essential stocks and technical support, enabling students to gain hands-on training in key areas such as the preparation of fly food, culturing and maintenance of Drosophila, male-female differentiation, mutant identification, and conducting genetic crosses to analyze principles of genetics, among others.
Since its inception, the Centre has conducted regular workshops to train students and teachers from various colleges. In November 2024, workshops were organized for the Department of Biochemistry, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, and the Zoology Department, Deshbandhu College. During these workshops, over 40 students and four faculty members were trained in Drosophila genetics.
Dr. Neeru Dhamija and Dr. Anita Goel have been invited to the Department of Biotechnology, AIIMS, since 2019 to introduce MSc Biotechnology students to Drosophila genetics.
In pursuit of continuous learning, Dr. Neeru Dhamija and Dr. Anita Goel participated in a 7-day hands-on laboratory workshop titled “Using Drosophila melanogaster for Biology Classes” at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) from May 29 to June 4, 2024. This workshop aimed at equipping college teachers with new experimental techniques and updating their knowledge in the field.
The Centre remains committed to fostering genetic education and collaborative learning, ensuring students and educators are well-equipped with practical skills and advanced knowledge.

2. Skill Development Center on Aquaculture

The Aquaculture Laboratory offers practical training under Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) to promote sustainable aquaculture and entrepreneurship.
Courses Offered:
- Aquaculture Entrepreneurship: Training in modern and traditional aquaculture techniques and sustainable water management and ornamental plant cultivation.
- Ornamental Fish Culture: Aquarium decoration, fish breeding, and nutritional observation. Gain practical knowledge on breeding and culture of various ornamental fishes. Maintenance and management of optimum water quality for healthy fish production.
- Fish Feed Formulation: Indigenous ingredient identification and optimized feeding strategies. Monitor the fishes to analyze the impact of formulated feeds on fish growth, so we can optimize feeding strategies that improve fish health.
- Fish Breeding and Larviculture: Broodstock maintenance and live feed usage for larvae survival. Breeding of the following fishes: guppy, molly, poller parrot, etc.


3. Skill Development Center on Hydroponic and Aeroponics
Established by the Department of Botany in 2023 under the guidance of Professor Rekha Kathal, the centre aims to promote the principles of sustainable farming through Hydroponics and Aeroponics.
This year, the centre has efficiently trained 35 students from diverse science streams such as Botany, Life Sciences, and Zoology from Delhi University. The training sessions, which include hands-on experiences in media preparation, instrumentation, certification, and marketing, have proven highly beneficial, as reflected in positive student feedback.
Currently, the centre is cultivating vegetables such as lettuce and herbs like basil and brahmi using both vertical grow towers and horizontal units with Nutrient Film Technology.
From February 24 to March 1, 2025, the centre conducted a Skill Development Programme titled “Hydroponics and Aeroponics – The Future of Sustainable Farming” under the coordination of Dr. Sunita George and Dr. Kamlesh Kumari. The program featured expert speakers from industrial and government sectors, providing students with technical knowledge and entrepreneurship skills. It also guided them on obtaining grants from funding agencies.


6. Centre for Happiness

The inaugural function of the “Centre for Happiness” and an Add-on Certificate Course on “The Science and Practice of Happiness,” was held on 31st August, 2024. The inauguration ceremony was marked by the presence of distinguished Chief Guests Professor K. Ratnabali (Dean of Academic Activities and Projects, University of Delhi), Professor Savita Roy (Principal, Daulat Ram College), Dr. Riya Vinayak (Coordinator, The Rekhi Foundation), Professor Renu Gulati (former Professor, Institute of Home Economics, DU), along with Dr. Sandhyarani Hawbam (Coordinator, Centre for Happiness), faculties and students.
This course aims at promoting mental well-being, personal growth, and happiness among students with weekly Saturday sessions by experts in the field.
